I'm using Sparkpost as the ESP to warm up a secondary domain. We've used this Sparkpost IP for our primary domain for a few months without a problem. I've been tracking the deliverability of the secondary domain warmup and Google shows that the SPF passing

Additionally, the email header in question shows SPF = Pass

However, Postmaster is reporting a 0% SPF success rate which may be degrading our secondary domain reputation. Has anyone else experienced this issue and identified a potential solution? Thank you for your time

  • What is "Postmaster" in this context? Commented Jan 10 at 16:22
  • @KeithLangmead I'm referring to Google's tool Postmaster, which shows stats about domains like IP reputation, spam rate, etc. This data is limited to Google, as we are seeing normal deliverability with other providers like Yahoo and AOL Commented Jan 10 at 21:59
  • I don't know anything about Sparkpost or Postmaster, so those questions should be directed at their support staff. If you are having issues with SPF failures, you likely need to post an SPF failure. One test would be to create a DMARC record to include RUA and RUF, which will also report results of SPF tests.

Postmaster likely shows the DMARC related SPF result as failing, due to the SPF alignment for your emails. Because SPF is checked on the Return-Path domain, which is b.masterworks.com, while the FROM domain is masterworks-offerings.com.

DMARC requires alignment between the SPF domain and the FROM domain, in order to Pass DMARC checks (on SPF). Additionally, even if you change the organizational domain to match the FROM domain, because the Return-Path is sending from a subdomain, DMARC authentication will fail on SPF alignment due to the SPF alignment tag in the DMARC policy record is set to strict (aspf=s). This requires the both domains to exactly match.

To fix this alignment issue: Change the organizational domain in the Return-Path header and remove the aspf tag, so it takes the default value of r (relaxed).
